Salty Science!
Fun investigative science activities themed around salt were the main focus of a day we provided for The Salter's’ Company at half-term. Sheila Pott, their Public Programmes Manager, commented, “The day filled our great hall and court room with such a buzz and atmosphere that is still resounding now. “
SOCOPA in Space
There were 60 parents and children visiting the National Space Centre as part of the Space Science Celebration STFC project with which we are involved. Some of the young people came back to NSA for the ‘Lates’ to hear about researchers and found it inspiring!
Amazing Magnetopause
Our final pilot of this exciting new workshop (looking at how the Earth’s magnetic field protects our planet) was a great success. Here are some of the pupils finding out about the shape of magnetic fields.
Amazing ASE
We are having a great time at the Annual ASE Conference. Our stand has had plenty of visitors to try out fun science activities and Sarah’s talk (“Science is Everywhere”) was well-attended. What a great way to start the new year!

Studying the Sun
The latest session of the STFC-funded Space Science Celebration project included finding out all about the sun with help from Helen Mason from the University of Cambridge.
Space Scientists!
Sarah went to the Havering Primary Teachers Conference to provide a practical space science session. It was well-received, ‘It was great to see models that we can easily recreate at our own schools. Thank you.’
Cypriot Scientists
Foley’s School in Limassol, Cyprus, won a recent competition run by CLEAPSS. Their prize was a day of our workshops so Martin flew over there and worked with six classes today, all having great fun making and investigating Rollers.
Inspiring Inset
Martin provided a fun day of Inset at YGG Llyn-y-Forwyn as an exciting way to start the term. The staff had a very enjoyable day learning a variety of ways to teach practical science.

Marvellous Masterclasses
Sarah loved the venue where she ran a science communication masterclass at Balliol College Oxford with summer school students from all round the world.
Gathering at the Galleries
Sarah had a fantastic time giving science shows in Lapworth Geology Museum at Birmingham University where she shared space with the dinosaurs. The audiences were full of enthusiasm for science.
People's Planetarium
Sarah was at this summer’s Tring Carnival where she got the audience to act out being the Solar System. Here is a view from the stand showing the first few ‘planets’ getting into place. It was amazing how many of them tried to race each other around the ‘sun’!
Science Club Stars
Sarah was delighted to provide activities for The Aspie Club in Tring recently. This is a local support group for girls between the ages of 7 and 11 years who have are on the Autistic Spectrum which meets monthly. This was a wonderful opportunity for them to learn new scientific skills.
Super Scientists!
Brooksward Primary School’s science week finished with KS1 and KS2 Sphere Science shows. It was great to see excellent science explanations from pupils of all ages!
Family Fun!
It was lovely to see so many parents and grandparents supporting the pupils in their practical science activities during the Story workshop at Overdale Infant School . “ I think the parents enjoyed it as much as the pupils.”
Inspiring Inset
As part of the Polar Exploration Programme, each school gets an Inset session. Sarah recently provided one of these and the staff commented, “Excellent. Got everyone excited. Great to have practical session. Exciting to get children involved in something so exciting news and scientific development.”
Terrific TeachMeet!
The ASE TeachMeets are always good fun and a great way to share ideas with colleagues. At a recent event, Sarah had everyone making jumping beans - of all sizes!
Somali Scientists
Sarah worked with Leicester University researchers to provide a series of fun activities that helped members of the Somali Community Parents Association to understand more about magnetism in space. The day was a great success.
